A 1923 map showing Bascom Point, Florida

Bacom Point, Florida, is a former community in western Palm Beach County. The community was established after William M. "Dad" Bacom built a catfish business and farm along an area that protruded into southeast Lake Okeechobee. In 1922, a low earthen dam was constructed from Moore Haven to Bacom Point to prevent the lake from flooding crops. A year later, the Bacom abandoned the area. Bacom Point itself was dissolved in 1925. Upon completion of the Hoover Dike, 2,500 acres of agricultural land was added to the former community. Today, the Pahokee airport on Bacom Point Road is now on the reclaimed land.[1]
